Summer is the hottest and most humid season, with strong UV rays making skincare crucial.

It’s also vacation time, filled with outdoor activities such as swimming.

This leads to extended UV exposure, causing potential skin damage.

Many people use sunscreen but often forget that the scalp and hair are the most exposed and vulnerable.

💥

Applying sunscreen to the face and arms is easy, but protecting hair and scalp from UV damage is harder.

Let’s explore how to keep hair healthy during summer.

👩‍⚕️

The scalp affects over 90% of hair’s condition.

UV rays damage hair follicles and clog pores with sebum and sweat, weakening hair roots and causing hair loss.

Humid weather increases sebum and sweat, leading to inflammations like dermatitis and folliculitis.

1. Let’s use cooling spray!

When engaging in outdoor activities for long hours, the scalp is directly exposed to ultraviolet rays and humidity.

To soothe the scalp, apply a cooling spray containing menthol and peppermint components every 2 to 3 hours.

2. Always make sure your scalp is completely dry!

After shampooing with a shampoo designed for the scalp, thoroughly dry your hair with a towel, and then use a hair dryer to perfectly dry the scalp.

At this time, keep the hair dryer about 30~35cm away from the scalp to prevent direct exposure to the heat, and alternate between warm and cool air.

3. Change your parting often!

The parting in your hair is the most vulnerable area where the scalp is directly exposed to UV rays,

so when engaging in outdoor activities, frequently change your parting to minimize direct sunlight and ensure good airflow.

4. Tie your hair loosely around the scalp!

The UV rays and humidity in summer are primarily what make the scalp sensitive.

In such cases, tying the hair can itself have a negative effect on an already sensitive scalp. However, if it is absolutely necessary to tie the hair, it is important to do so without pulling on the scalp, keeping it as loose as possible to avoid irritating the scalp and to facilitate smooth blood flow.
